The artwork selected for Family will fill the Main exhibition area in the gallery. Prizes will be awarded by selection of our juror, Miguel Carter-Fisher.

Juror’s Statement: Most would agree that family is essential, but many would disagree on its definition. What is it to be a part of a family? Who inhabits this community? Are these relationships chosen or are we born into them? How has family changed historically? How has family changed personally? And what do we do when it is absent? These questions are among many we wish to reflect upon in Artspace’s upcoming exhibition, Family.

Miguel Carter-Fisher is a prominent figure in the Richmond Art Community and has been featured in local and international art exhibitions  He currently works as an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and previously worked with Art180 and was a professor and the studio arts coordinator at Virginia State University.  His interest in the arts began as a child and was nurtured by his father, the beloved late artist Bill Fisher.
