To kick off Baroque for All, RVA Baroque is reconnecting with musicians who've worked with the group over the last dozen years. Duos, trios, quartets...we gave them only one instruction--perform something you love. Build in a little extra time to enjoy the last night of Artspace's biennial juried exhibition Radius 250.
Richmond-based ensemble RVA Baroque will host Baroque for All Celebration, a music festival July 15-17, 2022.
Five events will take place across Richmond at two art galleries, a museum, and a synagogue. They will feature around 50 performers all from Richmond or with close Richmond ties. The event will culminate in a fully staged open-air performance of an opera from 1643, a collaboration of RVA Baroque, Capitol Opera Richmond, and the Latin Ballet of Virginia.
Much of the music is from the 17th and 18th centuries, the period known as Baroque. However, the celebration includes world premieres of contemporary compositions plus recent popular and folk numbers, all selected for their formal, stylistic and expressive connections with the earlier music.
Performers include specialists in historical performance styles as well as artists from gospel, blues, and indie rock traditions. Several held major roles in RVA Baroque’s 2021 original production Julie, Monster, a Queer Baroque Opera.
Prices are "pay as you will." Attendees pay between fifteen and fifty dollars per event (except the opera) according to their budget and their inclinations.
RVA Baroque is a (501) (c)(3) non-profit organization.
