Acrylic Monotype Prints

Artist Statement

Creating this series of 14 monotype prints was an intentional act of diversion. For brief times in my studio, I separated myself from the interruptions of a media saturated and oftentimes negative depiction of the world. These prints are visual meditations, utilizing paper, paint, various mark making tools and a printing block. They are records of escapes to my happy places.

The beauty of the process of creating monotype prints is the balance one experiences between color and form choices and the surprise of what unplanned results occur as a result of transparent colors and form interactions. My color choices are bright and the compositions and forms are spontaneous, expressive and playful. All choices were made with the intent to visually communicate my brief explorations away from the ongoing stresses of modern life.

My hope is that the viewer of these works can join me, even for a brief time, in experiencing a more peaceful, positive and playful mind while being fully here in the present.
