Artist Statement

I begin paintings with an automatic drawing process as a means to access and express what it is like to walk in my shoes.  I develop the paintings by relying on instinct as well as a responsive method and trust that a satisfying structure will emerge. I hope that this expression of the otherwise inexpressible will resonate with someone else. 

Biography:

Martha Prideaux is an abstract painter from Richmond Virginia. She is known for using cold wax and mixed media to build rich, luminous, and textured surfaces to create a sense of history and passing time in her paintings. Martha is on the faculty at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School and has been a visiting artist instructor at the Henrico Center for the Arts and Nimrod Hall Artist Retreat.
