Statement

To understand art is to understand the times that produce it.

In these times destruction, ruin, death, and aging have made headlines.

Invasion of Ukraine

Environment destruction

Covid Pandemic

Mass shootings

Tornadoes and fires ripping and flattening towns

Protests and demonstrations

My own aging.

Our lives are ravaged in many ways. Life is ephemeral. Religion seems to be waining. We are  veering toward our own extinction. The Apocalypse haunts contemporary literature, music and  the arts.

Nothing is permanent, nothing is complete, nothing is perfect. Nothing remains. My current work deals with these issues

Plaster encases waste materials, for a time elevated, but these too will decay. It is a life of  ravished fleeting beauty.

This work is full of destruction, scratches, holes, rips and tears and beauty. The moment is  now. The moment is holy. We must find joy in this moment. What remains is a document of  past lives and the passing of time and memory.

Memento Mori.

Day of the Dead.

Celebrating that we have lived.
