"I'm interested in images that are wondrous and often overlooked. Maybe it's a stunning sunset we’re too distracted to admire on our evening commute. Or that deep-blue cast the sky gets in the early morning, just after a heavy snowstorm.
Or it could be a night-shrouded space where nature reasserts itself and the familiar world of well-maintained suburban homes and manicured lawns becomes a dreamscape.
In my latest series of paintings, I'm especially interested in that nebulous transition from landscape to dreamscape. Where the natural world becomes so jarringly surreal that it seems more imagined than actually seen.
There’s a child-like magic in those moments, as well as a subtle sense of threat. Something wondrous seems about to manifest itself out of the darkness, but we might not want to be there when it does.
I take inspiration from the parks I explore and the nocturnal walks I take through my neighborhood. I work primarily in acrylic on canvas. I have a B.F.A. in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University."
