Artist Statement:
I started thinking about quilts and what they are and what they do.
I thought about comfort and the idea of pockets to hold things of comfort. I thought about how fibers blanket us with comfort and warmth and beauty. I went from those thoughts to thinking about the little stuffed animals ( plushies) in the pockets to using 3-d elements in another form of quilt.
So experimentation led me to the works with fruit and vegetables.
The 3-d elements are stitched by hand, the backgrounds are stitched by machine.
