Artist Statement:
We strive, and sometimes struggle, to find and fulfill our role in today’s world, amid a maelstrom of wrongs that need righting.

Sometimes we need a moment to refresh our viewpoints, replenish our energies, and renew our purpose.  That feeling is reflected in these paintings. They reference moments when I was moved by the beauty of the world. Nature gives me a sense of proportion and scale. Walking through a wood adjusts my perspective.

The larger acrylic works are painted on panel, a departure from my usual mixed media on paper. The process of outline and fragmentation helped me make sense of tangled undergrowth and branches. It was a mediative act of pulling order out of chaos.

I painted the smaller pieces after a visit to Hawaii where molten lava flows to the sea and creates new land – how magical for there to be a positive, creative outcome when opposing forces meet.
