The Shop

Slam Richmond

Slam Richmond hosts a free writing workshop every Saturday! Come get prompts, help with edits, and fresh approaches to your story. 5:30pm at The Shop, 0 E. 4th Street, in the small building with garage doors across 4th from Art Works/Plant Zero. Open mic follows at 8! #slamrichmond

Writing Workshops 5:30 Every Saturday in The Shop

Every Saturday Slam Richmond provides a free writing workshop for writers, aspiring and accomplished. Workshops include prompts and concepts used in writing. Offered workshops will also occasionally dabble in performance instruction and practice sessions. The workshop is presented in conjunction with our open mic which occurs at 8 p.m. on Saturday nights in the same building, "The Shop." Also, when in season, we have poetry slam competitions following our open mic.

Open Mic 8:30 Every Saturday in The Shop

Every Saturday the Slam Richmond Reading Series presents an open mic at 8:30 p.m. with doors and sign-up at 8. Depending on qualifying and slam season, the open mic may be followed by a poetry slam, a competitive poetry event! The Slam Richmond Slam Team is part of the longest running slam organization in Richmond. Every year Richmond sends the Slam Richmond YOUTH TEAM (Slam Dominion) to the Youth Speaks - Brave New Voices Poetry Festival and often competes at the National Poetry Slam. Though Slam Richmond is a poetry group, it is also a community group. All artists of any variety are welcome to participate in the open mic. Also, because it is a community venue every workshop and open mic in The Shop is FREE! This makes us premier because of the poetry, not the price.
