TIFFANY FLOYD
Artist Statement
Creating art allows me to be expressive. I channel my thoughts, ideas, and feelings onto canvas, paper, or fabric by means of painting, printmaking, or quilting. My prints are primarily collagraphs pulled from plates that are constructed using foam, rope, sticks, cardboard, or screen prints. My fiber works are mixed media and often combine soft and stiff fabrics, dyes, pigments, printed images from photographs, embroidery, quilting, Shibori dyeing techniques and screen printing. At times I find ways to integrate hard, rigid materials such as sticks, mirrors, and kiln-formed glass into my fiber pieces.
I create in an intuitive manner, choosing colors and creating compositions according to my present mood. My pieces tend to be intimately sized and detail oriented, requiring an up close and personal look from the viewer. My imagery conveys my fears of being trapped in spaces and situations or continuing the same vicious cycles in life.
