Artist Statement

What do we leave the next generation? Many times, it is only photographs; boxes of long forgotten photos in attics and basements without names or stories.
While the people showcased in my work are just images without a story, they are now my friends.

This series revolves around glass negatives from an esteemed photography business in the early 19th century, Homeier and Clark, based in Richmond, Virginia. The photographer John Clark left 160 glass negatives in the basement of my mother-in-law’s brick row house on Floyd Avenue. While they developed water damage, the unfortunate result of 40 years of neglect, each negative is now digitized and cataloged. These glass negatives form the basis of this series. I enhance the image intuitively as I play with a large variety of textiles and fibers. I use embroidery, free motion drawing, and any other media I find interesting to celebrate lives once lived.
