Artist Statement

"The Little Red Fish" is a political allegory in serial comic form written by James Moffitt and illustrated by Bizhan Khodabandeh. Made in the style of George Orwell's "Animal Farm," the story is inspired by the Iranian revolution of 1979—starting with the orchestrated coup of Prime Minister Mossaddegh by US and British intelligence up to the rise of Khomeini.

"The Little Red Fish" was accepted into the Society of Illustrators 2015 and 2016 annuals. Khodabandeh & Moffitt both have a background in political activism and have been researching the revolution using historical texts. Khodabandeh has also interviewed leftists directly involved in the revolution. The comic was originally made available through digital installments by Rosarium Publishing, and in print by Sink/Swim Press.
