Randi Newman will exhibit a series of paintings, Highway Impressions, in the Main Gallery. Newman's paintings depict trucks speeding down the highway during a rainstorm. The painterly style and dynamic composition of these paintings create a tunnel of energy that Newman describes as hitting an "emotional level." Newman's process begins with a quick layout, followed by intense painting. She says, "In between the intense painting, I completely stop and spend large amounts of time just contemplating the work before I jump back in to continue the process. I don't want everything planned out in advance; I want to wrestle with it as I go to keep it fresh and full of energy." The viewer certainly is wrapped up in an exhilarating, energetic and emotional ride as they fly down the highway with these trucks. Randi Newman received her B.A. in Fine Arts from San Francisco State University. She has taught art and exhibits her work in Virginia. This is her first solo exhibition at artspace Gallery.
